The Hotels for Trees Foundation directly contributes to a greener hotel world. A hotel world in which one new tree is planted every time a guest chooses to skip the daily cleaning of their room.

The impact of this green choice can be seen the very next day on the Hotels for Trees website and contributes directly to (re)forestation projects around the world.

Our goal

Hotels for Trees aims to make the hotel industry more sustainable by converting savings from cleaning rooms into newly planted trees.

Our goal is to expand our activities around the world in the coming years and, together with our partners, plant at least 1 million trees a year starting in 2026.

About Hotels for Trees

Hotels for Trees is a non-profit foundation established in May 2021. It started in the Netherlands and has expanded rapidly in Europe since 2022. Further expansion to Australia and the U.S. is currently underway.

Hotels for Trees has Dutch ANBI status (special charity brand including tax benefits for people from Europe who donate).

The foundation is run by a board of three and overseen by a Supervisory Board. All donations are spent on (re)afforestation projects and used to run and grow Hotels for Trees.

 

The need

More than 1% of all CO2 emissions on our planet are caused by the hotel industry and the travel, services and supplies associated with it(source). More specifically, research from 2022 found that a night spent in a hotel can produce as much as 152.2 kg of CO2, depending on the country you visit(source).

Fortunately, more and more hotels and meeting venues are offering their guests and bookers, in an accessible and transparent way, the possibility to offset (part of) this CO2. This is a great development, because certainly in the world post-COVID-19, there is an increasing need for this.
